Log Pattern

Middleware Log Patterns groups messages with similar structures so you can investigate recurring events without reading every log entry individually.

Patterns are generated from log samples over time and grouped by service. You can use search and filters to narrow the Patterns view to a specific subset of logs.

Use patterns to identify repeated errors, noisy messages, and differences within a recurring event. The pattern count shows how common the event is and sample logs provide the details of individual occurrences.

View Log Pattern#

To view detected patterns, go to: Log Monitoring → Patterns.

Middleware groups logs with similar log bodies into patterns. Instead of inspecting every matching log individually, you can use a pattern to understand how frequently a particular type of message occurs and which services generate it.

For each pattern, you can see:

  • Count: Number of logs matching the pattern.
  • Last occurrence: Most recent time the pattern was observed.
  • Service: Service associated with the logs in the pattern.

View Top Values#

Hover over a pattern to view its most frequently occurring values. This provides a quick way to understand the common values associated with a pattern without opening individual logs.

Pattern details#

Clicking a pattern in the list opens the pattern side panel from which you can:

  • View attributes and properties associated with the pattern.
  • View anomalies detected for the pattern.
  • Inspect sample logs that match the pattern.

Pattern Explorer#

Use the Pattern Inspector to analyze how values are distributed within a log pattern. The inspector shows the top values associated with the pattern along with their occurrence counts. This can help identify which dimensions contribute most frequently to a recurring log event.

For example, a recurring error may appear across several regions, but its most frequent values can show that most occurrences come from one region.

To inspect a pattern:

  1. Navigate to Log Monitoring → Patterns.
  2. Select the log pattern you want to investigate.
  3. Open the Log explorer.
  4. Review the top values and their occurrence counts.

Use these values to identify attributes that are common across logs matching the pattern.

Log tree#

The Log Tree provides a hierarchical view of the parameters and values found within a log pattern.

Expand a parameter to view its possible values and the number of occurrences for each value. Nested parameters can be expanded further to inspect their value distribution.

For example:

1region
2├── us-east-1 1,240
3├── us-west-2 430
4└── eu-west-1 85

This view can help you:

  • Understand the structure of logs represented by the pattern.
  • Identify the most common values for a parameter.
  • Find values that occur infrequently or differ from the majority.
